159, City Road, Cardiff CF24 3BQ [show map]
Tel: 029 20472771
Cost: £18pp including some wine
we like: wonderfully like no where else in Cardiff
we don't like: shambolic leanings
rating: (6/10)
In brief:
Terrifically entertaning Lebanese night out, but not necessarily for the right reasons
In detail:

Now then, here are some things we recommend you take with you to Mezza Luna, because they didn't have them last Saturday:

menus
wine glasses
strawberries
pine nuts
spoon

However, they do have an abundance of kitsch architecture and also belly dancing (Fridays and Saturdays only). The interior really is quite something here, and will quite possibly make you vomit on entering the door if you're sensitive to such things. As for the belly dancing, well it definitely saved the day. Whether it's in any way authentic we can't say (she's from Prague) but it really gets things going.

Which can't be said for the food. You'll need some patience as it takes an eternity to arrive (and it wasn't even busy). However, it's a pretty decent menu of mezze and bigger Lebanese dishes. The vine leaves are definitely the highlight (beautifully minty) and there's lashings of hummus and juicy olives on offer.

As for drinks, steer clear of the Lebanese wine unless you like your whites bland and unpleasantly sweet. The Almara speciality beer is a joy though - definitely something of the Fig Rolls about it.

For all the faults, Mezza Luna is good fun , and reasonably priced. The staff do a great job of coping with the challenges presented by management and kitchen. Final tip: don't go as a couple. You'll be fighting over that 3rd mezze item every time.
