(5/10) Somehow The Heathcock has acquired a reputation for only one offering - its mixed grill. We'll come to that shortly. As for the pub, well it's not too bad. The beer is decent (two Adnams and a Felin Fach on this visit) and you can choose between the vaguely homely main lounge bar or the vomit-proofed sparseness of the chavs' bar next door.
Anyway, onto the pile of meat which arrives at your table all of a sizzle. Verdicts as follows:
Pork - OK
Steak - OK but overdone (want medium? request rare)
Sausage - rubbish
Gammon - passable
Chips - excellent
Egg - optional.
You're probably wondering what all the fuss is about. Well, it does deliver a good piece of tucker with no nonsense and a fair bit of drama. And there's almost something obtusely charming about the general insolence of the serving staff. If you want service with a style The Heathcock is not the place to come.

Great beer garden (shhh don't tell everyone)
Interesting - we shall check it out on our next visit.
And damn fine curries too (from a local gourmet caterer). And Adnam's Broadside.
Another dodger beckons, I feel. Check it out.
